Vocational Training Program
Beginning in March 2004, Sovann Phoum's Vocational Training Program has been working to support extremely poor youths, mainly from the Phnom Penh slum communities, by providing them with training to develop vocational skills and supporting them all the way through to finding job placements. On average, Sovann Phoum is able to help 150 destitute youths (between the ages of 16-30) benefit from the program each year.

BeneficiariesThe youth we support come from very poor families living in slum, squatter, dumping or re-settled areas who tend to be uneducated, unskilled and unemployed, sometimes with HIV/AIDS. Some of them are migrants from rural poverty-stricken areas and find themselves living in rented rooms or shelters.
How It WorksWith Sovann Phoum's Vocational Training Program, these youths receive regular counselling, training materials, and skills training in collaboration with government and private enterprises, for 4-10 month training courses.
After successful training completion, the trainees are put into different work placements, following which all of our trainees have either found a job or ended up running their own income generating activities (15%). After employment, our trainees earned on average US$70-200 per month. The Trainee Alumni Association was created in April 2010, linking participants and ultimately encouraging alumni's to inspire and educate others. For more detailed information on this program, please refer to the report below.

How You Can HelpEvery little donation grants a potential trainee access to a stable job and income for life, consequently ensuring the sustainable access to food, clothes, clean water, toilets, electricity, and health services. Importantly, the trainee's family would be able to send their children to school which is working towards a better life for future generations.
